What is Úumbal?
Úumbal: Nomadic Choreography for Inhabitants kicks off the 2019 Fringe Festival in September. The piece is an exercise in meeting, recognizing, and celebrating a community gathered for the joy of movement, exploring new ways of moving through public space. Úumbal is developed of, by, and for Philadelphia residents with lead artist Mariana Arteaga to create a choreography that is representative of a collective. The project consists of three stages, culminating with Úumbal participants moving the choreography through the streets of the Whitman neighborhood in South Philadelphia.

¿Qué es Úumbal?
Úumbal: una celebratoria coreografía nómada para habitantes arrancará el Festival Fringe 2019 en Septiembre. Úumbal es un ejercicio de encuentro, reconocimiento y goce de una comunidad reunida a partir del disfrute de bailar y experimentar nuevas formas de estar y desplazarse por el espacio público. Úumbal será desarrollado por y para residentes de Filadelfia junto con la artista Mariana Arteaga, para crear una coreografía colectiva nómada. El proyecto tiene tres etapas y culminará con bailarines voluntarios de Úumbal presentando la coreografía en las calles del barrio Whitman en el sur de Filadelfia.

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED
Performances: volunteers – the FringeArts Front of House team need volunteers for the performances of Úumbal! Volunteers will work with the Úumbal house manager to guide audiences to the starting point of the route, and with the street marshals to help audiences follow the flow of the processional. Volunteers will also help make sure we leave Mifflin Square Park better than we found it.

Actuaciones: voluntarios – el equipo de FringeArts necesitan voluntarios por las actuaciones de Úumbal! Los voluntarios trabajarán guiar la audiencia al comienzo de la ruta, and con las brigadistas ayudar la audiencia seguir el baile. Los voluntarios también monitorizarán la basura en el parque con el equipo de FringeArts.
